Diagnosis and cleaning

The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve is a component of the emissions control system in modern diesel and petrol engines. When it fails, it can cause performance problems and increase harmful emissions.

The repair process begins by diagnosing the EGR valve using an automotive diagnostic tool. If the problem with the EGR valve is caused by a build-up of carbon deposits, our mechanics can clean it using specific cleaning products. If the valve is damaged or leaking, it must be replaced with a new EGR valve.
Replacing the EGR valve

This operation may require the removal of engine parts to gain access, such as the exhaust manifold or cooling pipes, which can take time. Mechanics can also inspect other components of the EGR system, such as hoses and connectors, to ensure they are in good condition. Faulty parts such as seals, solenoid valves or valves can be cleaned or replaced to ensure optimum operation.

Once the EGR valve has been replaced or cleaned, the mechanics carry out tests to ensure that it meets emissions standards. They also clear the fault codes from the diagnostic system to indicate that the problem has been completely resolved.
